Two-time Olympian Ellie Black of Halifax is among nearly 400 Canadian athletes who will compete at the world university games that begin Aug. 19 in Taipei.
The four-time Canadian all-around champion, who placed fifth in the overall at last year’s Olympics, will lead a gymnastics team that also features two-time Olympian Brittany Rogers.
Jessica Dowling, Denelle Pedrick and Briannah Tsang make up the rest of the team.
Black, 21, is tuning up for the world championships that begin in October in Montreal. She had a long layoff to begin the year as the result of a foot injury.
Track and field athletes Sarah Mitton and Peter Millman and brothers Hunter and Jackson Carroll in taekwondo have also been named to the team. AUS basketball players Kevin Bercy of St. F.X. and Erik Nissen of Acadia are on the hoops team.
