Training Groups
The Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic supports three levels of training groups throughout Atlantic Canada. For more information on how to become a training group, please contact Ken Bagnell.
National Training Groups
Is a partnership between the National Sport Organization and the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic to establish a international recognized high performance training environment for athletes and coaches in Atlantic Canada. To qualify, the National Sport Organization must contribute financial and program assistance and there must be Sport Canada carded athletes and a full time National Coach. Regional and Provincial Training groups also will be integrated for these sports with there respective PSOs. Level of services provided to the training group by the CSCA varies depending on the NSO-PSO-CSCA Training Group Agreement.

Finn Training Camp
July 2011
For the past 2 weeks, St. Margarets Sailing Club, Canadian Sport Center Atlantic and CST have hosted a Finn training camp in St Margarets Bay. Sailors Martin Robitaille(Que), Paul Brikis (Ont), Greg Douglas (Ont) and Brendan Wilton (NS), with guest coach Vaughn Harrison racked up the hours and miles with a variety of conditions the Bay had to offer from light (one day) to the last day with 18-20 and good sized waves.
Each day after sailing, the team would sail back to the Sport Center facility at SMSC for a spin on the stationary bikes to flush out the lactic acid while Vaughn would go over the video taken that day. This was followed by a visit from massage therapist, Adnan Rassi and Physiotherapist, Karen Decker from the Sport Center team who put the guys in condition for the next day of sailing, combined with regular calls and visit by Colin Guthrie, Sport Psychologist to round out the package.
It was exciting to work with this modern crop of Finn sailors that are sharing ideas and training together as a team to push each other toward the podium.
Most days, training was followed by a few races and scores were kept throughout the week and a double-point medal race at the end to crown the “Champ of the Camp”. Going into the last day, it was a tight series with daily changes on the leader board but it was Martin Robitaille who won the tie break with Greg Douglas, closely followed by Brendan and Paul.
Many thanks to the team at Sport Center Atlantic bringing the professional level of athlete assistance to the camp.
