Discipline: Mental Performance Consultant

CSCA athletes/groups you work with (if specific): Canoe/Kayak Canada and other National Team athletes who train out of the CSCA in Halifax

When did you start practicing? I started working at the CSCA two years ago, but have been working in the applied setting for a few years.

Why did you become a mental performance consultant?

I have always been fascinated with why and how athletes perform to the highest of their ability. I have also always been intrigued by human behaviour and interactions. So when I was a high school student and found out that I could combine these two interests and have a career out of them, I knew at that moment it was the path for me.

Please provide a few thoughts on working with high performance athletes.

Working with high performance athletes can be challenging and is also just as motivating and fun. Working with these athletes pushes me to be better at what I do every day because I’m surrounded by athletes who are fully committed to do the same in their own craft. The context and environment is ever changing so you have to be adaptable and that’s what keeps it interesting. There very few things that are more inspiring for a sport scientist than to be a member of a support team helping a high performing athlete achieve their goal, and I am privileged to be a part of that.
