Canada Games Summer 2013 Sports Science Program
WHAT IS IT?
The Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic (CSCA) is supported by the four Atlantic provincial governments: Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Coaching Association. The CSCA aims to offer efficient services for the sports community and meet the needs of athletes and coaches at national and provincial levels residing in Atlantic Canada.
The CSCA has continued to develop the Sport Science Program to assist Atlantic Canada’s athletes and coaches to achieve their optimal performances at the Canada Games. In this program the CSCA will work with Canada Games appointed coaches to coordinate a series of sessions with the CSCA’s professional sport science experts.
Each discipline of the CSCA Performance Enhancement Team is an essential component for athletes training at an elite level. In conjunction with the sports scientist, eligible teams can select from one of the following programs (based on a total of 15 hours of expert time):
Program 1 – Strength and Conditioning Emphasis
1 hr of coach consultations
2 x 2hr Sport Specific Fitness Assessments and written report with feedback
2 hr Program planning and 4 x 1hr Strength and Conditioning group sessions
2 hrs group Mental Performance education
2 hrs group Nutritional Skills Education
Program 2 – Physical and Mental Performance Emphasis
1 hr of coach consultations
2 x 2hr Sport Specific Fitness Assessments and written report with feedback
1 hr Program planning and 3 x 1hr Strength and Conditioning group sessions
4 hrs group Mental Performance education
2 hrs group Nutritional Skills Education
Program 3 – Mental Performance and Nutrition Emphasis
1 hr of coach consultations
1 hr Program planning and 3 x 1hr group sessions, Strength and Conditioning
5 hrs group Mental Performance education
5 hrs group Nutritional Skills Education
IS MY TEAM ELIGIBLE?
To participate in this program teams must have:
- Named their Canada Games coaching staff
- Developed their selection criteria for their CG summer 2013 athletes and identified their core team
Please note:
- A maximum of 20 athletes per team will be eligible for fitness assessment sessions
- The initial consult between the team coach and the sport scientist will establish how best to progress with the program
- On the application form please specify which program (1, 2, or 3) you think most closely fits the needs of your team/group
HOW DO I APPLY?
The deadline for applications is February 1st 2012. However we would strongly encourage you to apply ASAP. This allows more time for planning and implementation of the program.
