Athlete Services
What services are available?
The goal of the CSCA is to provide an all-encompassing personal development and medical/science team to serve high performance athletes and coaches in Atlantic Canada. This service team consists of identified leaders and experts from the Atlantic community. It utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to providing broad holistic services in the following areas:
Performance Services
- Sport Medicine
- Physicians: Overall health care
- Athletic Therapy: Injury prevention and rehabilitation
- Sport Physiotherapy: Injury prevention and rehabilitation
- Massage Therapy: Recovery and regeneration
- Chiropractic: Assistance in injury prevention and rehabilitation
- Alternative: As required
- Nutritional Services
- Individual and group assistance with nutritional education and guidance
- Sport & Exercise Science
- Individual and group services in areas such as Biomechanics & Sport Physiology.
- Specific services could include: Physiological testing (Max V02, strength, flexibility, lean body mass, etc.) , Video skill analysis, Biomechanical analysis of sport specific movements
- Strength & Conditioning
- Individual and group strength and conditioning services (consultation or direct programming)
- Athletes will also be assisted in gaining access to a variety of general training facilities
- Sport Psychology Consulting/Mental Training
- individual and group assistance (sport-specific or multi-sport) through mental skills development in areas such as: Visualization, Relaxation techniques, Focusing skills, Stress management
Life Services
- Program Guide
- Personal Counseling
- Assistance with personal issues
- Individual, group, or peer support in areas such as: eating issues, family stress, harassment/abuse
- Career Development / Counseling
- Assistance with career development and planning skills by means of career counseling, informational interviews, aptitude testing, resume preparation and job search techniques. – Athletes can also learn practical techniques to assess themselves, effective methods to explore their options, and strategies for implementing a career plan.
- Academic Support
- Educational planning and/or tutoring support assistance to enable athletes the opportunity to obtain a complete formal education and make effective decisions regarding education and training relative to their needs and interests. Tutoring services will be made available for those athletes who require extra help in a particular subject area.
- Transition Counseling
- Athletes planning for, or dealing with, their retirement from sport will be provided with counseling services to assist them in adapting to the change(s).
- Seminars / Workshops
- The coordination and hosting of relevant workshops to provide personal development opportunities. Examples could include financial management, marketing, self-presentation skills, coping with injury, transition, body image/awareness).
- Computer workstation and resources
- To assist with career / personal / sport-related projects
